Agricultural Drought Detection with MODIS Based Vegetation Health Indices in Southeast Germany

Droughts during the growing season are projected to increase in frequency and severity Central Europe future. Thus, area-wide monitoring of agricultural drought this region is becoming more important. In context, it essential know where when vegetation growth primarily water-limited whether remote sensing-based indices can detect these areas. To answer questions, we conducted a correlation analysis between Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) Land Surface Temperature (LST) within from 2001 2020 Bavaria (Germany) investigated relationship with land cover altitude. second step, applied Condition (TCI), (VCI), Health (VHI) areas evaluated them soil moisture yield anomalies. We found that, especially summer months (July August), on grassland below 800 m, NDVI LST negatively correlated thus, water primary limiting factor for here. Within periods, TCI VHI correlate strongly anomalies, suggesting that both have potential Bavaria.
